Our off-grid stay requires guests to adapt to environmental cues.

· A level of interaction is required between guests and the dwelling as part of this off-grid living experience.

· The awnings and blinds shade and block the sun’s heat, or let it in. To operate, you will walk along and stand on the 60cm wide, web-forge ledge (80cm from ground level at the highest point) and wind the awning cranks.

· To open clerestory windows for ventilation you will need to use the step ladder.

· The windows are fitted with sunscreen blinds that do not block out all light. If you like a darkened room for morning sleep-ins, pack a sleeping mask.

· Moving between the pavilions requires embracing the weather conditions. Understand that sometimes the decking is wet with rain as there is no undercover walkway.

· The off-grid dwelling is designed for low-power use. This means we do without electric aircon/heater, a dishwasher, a clothes dryer, a microwave oven and other (non-essential) modern conveniences.

· It is important guests do not bring their own portable space heater. An electric heater running through the night will drain the solar battery and shut down the system.

· There is a mini wood heater in the living pavilion for use in winter. We provide seasoned firewood. You must refer to instructions to ensure a safe and efficient burn with low emissions.

· The bedroom has no supplementary heating.

· In summer, cross-ventilation, retractable screen doors, shade awnings and ceiling fans are used for cooling.

· Water supply is from a rainwater tank that is micro-filtered. While we drink our water from the tap without issue, authorities recommend boiling for 3 minutes before drinking. If you have any concerns, we recommend bringing your own bottled drinking water.

· No pets are permitted on the property to ensure native birds and other wildlife are protected.

· There is Telstra network coverage and a booster to improve our signal. Although the coverage is ok most of the time it can be unreliable, particularly in peak season.

BUSHFIRE RISK
We love being surrounded by nature and take the threat of bushfire seriously. Enjoy the campfire only when the weather conditions are suitable, not when it is hot and/or windy. Keep the fire small, contain it within the ‘pit’ and always supervise. If care is not taken you could set fire to the place. It is your responsibility to be aware of the local fire restrictions, they can change daily.

SHOES OFF INSIDE
We take our cue from the Japanese and remove our shoes while indoors. We ask that guests do the same. Please leave them in the basket inside the door or outside on the deck/engawa. Slides and other slip-on style shoes make it easier to go in and out.

SUITABILITY
If this all sounds like a hitch maybe Swansong isn’t for you – that’s fine. Holidays are for relaxing and there are other wonderful properties in the area that might be a better fit. However, if you are keen to experience our version of off-grid living in a beautiful setting we welcome you in.

A house guidebook is at hand to ensure your stay is simple and trouble-free.
